PETER SMITH, PRESIDENT

Mr. Smith entered the world of real estate finance after having practiced law with Chapman and Cutler in Salt Lake City. In 1998, Smith opened a branch office of First Western Mortgage Services in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Smith’s transactional and public finance experience as an attorney provided the foundation for the rapid growth of his mortgage business. He soon became involved in Colorado’s booming fractional real estate market, leading to the eventual creation of NextStar Funding. Raised in Northern Michigan, Smith holds a JD from Vanderbilt University. He also earned a BS in Business Administration and a BA in English Literature from the Honors College at Michigan State University.

DUSTIN CARFIELD, VICE PRESIDENT

Mr. Carfield co-founded NextStar Funding after a career in transactional and international law that took him from St. Louis to London, New York, and the Middle East. His legal background with corporate transactions and finance made the transition to real estate finance and the foundation of NextStar Funding a natural fit. A native of Colorado, Carfield holds a JD from Vanderbilt University. In addition, he studied at the London School of Economics and holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from Washington University.
